Queen's Birthday Weekend Friday 2 to Mon 5 June - leaders are Shaun and others

Enjoy a fun weekend of relaxed local/island trips in and around the Whangaparoa Peninsular and the Mahurangi.  Spend time on the surf at Orewa and practice various rescues

This is will probably be the last organised car camping trip before winter sets in, so come and enjoy yourself.  Paddlers must be of strong beginner level and competent at self-rescues. Multiple trips of differing distances will be planned.  Bring your helmet if you are planning on rock gardening or surfing (or you can hire from C&K Auckland).  Hire kayaks are available and it may be possible for a few to be transported.  When registering, please say if you need kayak transport and we will see what we can do.

You can commute if you wish, or we will be staying at the Orewa Top Ten which offers tented campsites, cabins, centralized shower and kitchen facilities.

Campsite costs are:

  • Beachfront Powered Sites: $20 incl GST
  • Regular Powered Sites: $19 incl GST
  • Standard Cabins: (use communal facilities) $70 per couple per night; $16.50 per additional person Linen hire $7.50 per bed  The open plan cabins are equipped with a TV, fridge, kettle, toaster, table and chairs.  Guests use communal shower and toilet facilities. Beds come with bottom sheets and pillows only, guests provide their own top sheet and blankets, crockery and cutlery.  Bed configuration includes a queen bed and a set of bunks. Two of these cabins are designed for a family of five and have a duo bunk instead of a queen bed (please specify)

It will be a self-catering weekend you can either use the centralized kitchen facilities available or your own camp cooker.

On the Friday evening, you are invited to join Nick, Glenda and Shaun for a BBQ dinner on the beachfront – bringing your own meats of course and then on Saturday we could have dinner at the Orewa Surf Club Bar and Bistro or vice versa depending on the weather.

Fri 2ndSet up camp with BBQ at on the Beachfront – salads provided bring your own meat.

Sat 3rd to Mon 5th  – Depending on the winds, paddlers and in some cases the tides, trips will be arranged around the Orewa - Beach and River estuary, Mahurangi islands, Weiti River, Gulf Harbour and Whangaparoa Peninsular
