Waiheke weekend

16 - 18 March.  Leaders are Russell and others

The plan is to launch at St Heliers, morning tea at Brown's Island, lunch at Motuihe, then on to Matiatia, Waiheke.  One of our clubbies, Garth, has a bach at Onetangi and we will be staying there for the 2 nights.  This trip is in association with the Chopper Swim, see separate item.  You can come on this Waiheke Weekend even if you do not want to be a swim escort.

This is suitable for strong and confident beginners.  Distance is about 20+ km each way and we are crossing open water which can get bouncy.  You don't need your tent as there is plenty of floor space, but you will need your sleeping mat and sleeping bag, and ear plugs in case you are sleeping next to a snorer, and I think I will take a tent just in case!  Garth will meet us with a trailer to transport us to his place.

If you really want to go for the weekend, but the paddle is too far for you, Garth is happy to pick you up from the ferry.

You will need to take food for breakfasts and lunches.  The plan for dinners now is to have a shared BBQ on one night - the plan is to shop for this at the supermarket on Waiheke and share costs, hence avoid having to carry the meal with us on the kayaks, less packing - the second meal is planned to be Take-Aways with a good outlet just 15 minutes walk from Garth's.

In addition to the above-mentioned  sleeping bag, sleeping mat etc, you will need to take usual kayak safety gear; food for breakfasts and lunches;  wear high viz gear and safety flags as we will be paddling in a high traffic area; VHF radio if you have one.

Meeting at St Heliers boat ramp at 0930hrs for departure at 1030hrs.  For those on the chopper swim a car shuttle will be organised to pick up the cars when we get back on Monday.
