Why join the Manukau team for an introduction to Sea Kayaking?

We not only teach you vital kayak paddling and safety skills, we give you an experience that you will never forget. Enjoy kayaking in one of the most scenic spots in the Auckland area and come away with plenty of stories to share.

Just 20 minutes from downtown Auckland, the  Long bay - Okura Marine Reserve has an abundance of wildlife. Stingray, mullet and flounder are regularly seen; and many birds can be seen or heard including tui, bellbird, kereru, oyster-catcher, pied stilt, reef heron, white-faced heron, dotterel, fantail, grey warbler, kingfisher, harrier hawk, tern, and many more. The  marine bioluminescence is also a must see!

Accommodation (tents) is provided for the weekend if you would like an authentic camping experience. Otherwise there is also the option of staying in the historical Dacre Cottage. Participants are also welcome to organise their own accommodation.
 
The course kicks off at 9.00am on Saturday morning and runs through to completion at 4.00pm on the Sunday. Being conducted entirely within the marine reserve and in sheltered waters you will be guided by our highly skilled and  experience instructors. 

On this ever popular sea kayaking course you will learn all the skills you need to become a confident and competent kayaker. You will learn confidence in capsizing, boat handling and paddle skills, T-rescues and self rescues plus the knowledge to keep you safe and having fun on the water, as well as experiencing your first trip to put it all in to practice.
What’s more you’ll meet other awesome people to become your paddling buddies on future club trips.
Don’t have a kayak? Don’t worry; all paddling gear is supplied for the course and you can hire kayak for future club trips too.

The course price also includes your first year's membership to the club!
