General Plan

A relaxed mixed sport winter weekend based at Mangakino – paddle two days and cycle or hike one day… suitable for all paddlers and non-kayaking partners. Renting a cosy house with a good supple of firewood!

 

Fri night – meet at Mangakino, near Tokoroa. Do your own thing for dinner. Toss ideas and weekend plans around…make up a Trip Plan or two.

 

Saturday/Sunday/Monday

Paddlers - possibilities are Lake Maraetai or the lakes either side, Waipapa or Whakamaru. Probably two hours paddle, lunch break and two hours return.

Hikers – see Pureora Forest Park tracks. Mt Pureora summit is one option.

 

Sat eve. – Shared dinner. Let Ruth know your ‘signature’ dish or be assigned a category of food e.g. pudding!!

 

Sun eve. – Sunday roast. Meat, root vegies, gravy, the works… Ian will be head chef, you may offer to cut up the pumpkin or make the dessert. Probably $15 each.

Facilities /Car Parking

I have booked LakeView House, 25 Rimu St, Mangakino. Sleeps 13. Cost depends on numbers, but about $60 each for the three day weekend.

Normal kitchen. BBQ. Bring chilly bins as fridge space is never enough.  

 

Equipment

Usual paddling and safety gear, snacks, breakfasts, lunches, dinner to share for Sat night, wallet. Pillows, duvets and blankets provided. BYO linen or sleeping bag and towels. Bring DVD and CD’s or ipod’s that connect to a 3.5mm auxiliary input.

Non-paddlers can walk, cycle, play golf, potter, paint…
