Glow-worm Glory – Arapuni

Two paddles on the Waikato River, by sunlight, moonlight and by glow worm…and an alternative activity day as well - based at Arapuni.  Come for the day, afternoon and evening or the whole weekend.
Meet Friday night at the private property of friends of Ruth’s at Jones Landing, Lake Arapuni. (Map will be emailed to you after registration). Set up tents, alternatively can sleep marae style in lounge (bring yr bedroll/mattress). Saturday morning launch at 9.00 at Jones Landing paddle upstream to Mangare Stream and meander for a couple of hours (8kms total) or if you are the gung-ho type carry on up to The Landing (20kms total).
Saturday afternoon drive to Little Waipa Domain and launch at 2.00pm. Paddle to Pokaiwhenua Stream and go up as far as possible. Return to fireplace area for early dinner and bonfire (bring pine cones or wood). Exit via gorge lit by glow-worms and paddle upstream under the moonlight to cars, return to camp. (18km). N.B. bring your winter woollies and night lights.
Sunday – and informal relaxed day - freelance options include riverside walk to swing bridge and café (3 hrs.) or cycle on Waikato River Trail or separate ‘private’ paddle on Lake Karapiro before you drive home.
