LakeTarawera and Rotomahana - Thermal Duo
2 April – 6 April 2015
Circumnavigate Rotorua’s Lake Tarawera (48km) and Lake Rotomahana (26km) with a portage in between, over four days. (Bring your wheels; leave your base camp tent at home! Book your own campsites and be quick – this is Easter holidays.)
Meet at Blue Lake Holiday Park, 723 Tarawera Rd, Rotorua 07 362 8120 on the Thursday evening or on Friday morning. Make your own bookings – mention Yakity Yak Kayak Club ($42 for two (or one) for a tent site). Leave cars there for the duration of the weekend for $10 per car. We will have a ‘local’ assist us with car shuttles.
After car shuttles, on the water at 12 noon launching at The Landing. Paddle 12.5km to Hot Water Beach, Te Rata Bay and set up camp for Fri and Sat nights. Make your own booking for the two nights

On Saturday paddle about 2km to Rapatu Bay and portage 1.1km over to Lake Rotomahana with its steaming cliffs and circumnavigate it. 26km before portaging back to HWB camp and having a deserved soak in the hot water. On Sunday paddle north east to the Tarawera Outlet and onto the small camp site at Humphries Bay 18.5km. Free camp.
On Easter Monday follow the coast back to The Landing11.5km for coffees and cake or lunch before the drive home.
