Tawharanui 6 Aug 16

Saturday 6 August 16

Revised Plan

Weather for Saturday looking very dubious. Plan now is to postpone the peninsula trip for better weather.

So ... new plan is to meet at Sandspit on Saturday Morning at 9am for 9:30 on water, and paddle to Matakana Markets. This is a protected paddle of about 12km.

High Tide is at 9:47 am so we can get down with the incoming tide and return with the outgoing tide in the early afternoon.

If you  wish to go on this trip plse just use the original Tawharanui on-line bookings.

The plan is to meet at Jones Bay, Tawharanui (about a 1hr drive from Constellation Drive) at 9.00am for 9.30am on the water.

We will paddle east to the end of the peninsula and continue around the northern side to Anchor Bay for lunch. After lunch we return to Jones Bay in the reverse direction. (There is the option to take kayaks from the water at the lunch spot should anyone wish to organise a car shuttle).

The beach at Jones Bay is relatively steep but is quite manageable under most wind/tide conditions. Anchor Bay has a sandy beach with headlands giving some protection if there is a NE wind.

The coastline is quite rocky in many places, a good opportunity for rock gardening (a helmet would be a good idea if you intend to explore the rocks close up).

There is a tree planting planned for the Sunday, so if you wish to get involved, you could camp overnight and then get planting the next morning!
