General Plan

Note: If plan changes, you must notify your Check-in person.

The plan is to paddle to Motuihi Island on Saturday 4 November, camp overnight and return on Sunday. The campsite must be booked through DOC. ( I have booked in the Captain’s Camping area although anywhere should be fine)

On Sunday 5 November the Motuihi Trust is running an event to commemorate the centenary of the escape of Count von Luckner (a WW1 prisoner of war interned on the island). see http://www.motuihe.org.nz/Events There will be Guided Walks on the Sunday (Registration is required for the walks – however I can do a group booking once numbers are known.)

Return on Sunday afternoon via Browns Island, aiming for 1500 back at the St Heliers boat ramp.

Skill level – strong beginner.

Meet at the St Heliers boat ramp at 0900 for a 1000 start. This will allow adequate time for packing your kayak with camping gear! Cars can be parked on the side of the street opposite the boatramp.

We will paddle past the northern end of Browns Island to the beach at the northern end of Motuihi Island.

The camping area is located up the track to the left. Wheels will be an advantage!

After setting up camp we can paddle around the island or over to Motuora Is for a visit as the group decides.

If bad weather prevents paddling over, a ferry will leave Downtown on Sunday at 9.15 and Motuihe at 3.15. Contact Fullers https://www.fullers.co.nz/events-plus-deals/celebrate-count-felix-von-luckners-life-on-motuihe-island/
