Anniversary Weekend –

  • Motuihe - Camp and Tramp (Saturday)
  • Waiheke - “Headland Sculpture on the Gulf” (Sunday)
  • Rangitoto - Gardiner Gap / McKenzie Bay (Monday)

Saturday

Meet at Narrow Neck Boat Ramp at 08.45am for 09.45am departure. Paddle to Rangitoto hugging the coast around to Motutapu then cross over to Motuihe (13km paddle). Set up camp, have lunch and explore the Island.  Dinner – bring shared nibbles and own dinner.

Sunday

Paddle over to Matiatia Bay, Waiheke. Visit “Headland Sculpture on the Gulf” a 2 hour cliff top walk viewing sensational sculpture. Lunch and lattes on the beach. (14.44km return paddle or 19.9km paddle exploring Waiheke coast line). Back to Motuihe for Dinner.  Bring shared nibbles and own dinner.

Monday

Pack up camp for on the water at 09.30am. Paddle to Rangitoto, through Gardiner Gap and around to McKenzie Bay for lunch. Relax and walk before paddling back to Narrow Neck. Returning no later than 05.00pm.

You will need to – Book your own camp site on Motuihe.

$8 per person per night. Book into “Confidence Course” tent sites, 25m to toilets and if this is full book into “Parade Ground” tent sites, 100m to toilets and both are the closest camp sites to the beach.

  • Bring the obvious –all your own camping gear and normal paddling safety gear.
  • Bring your own water or boil water from Motuihe for 3mins to prevent Giardia.
  • Bring torch/head light/lantern. There is no power or lighting on Motuihe.
  • Take all rubbish with you when you leave the island.
  • Motuihe is pest free so please ensure your kayaks and gear are free of rodents, rainbow skinks, Argentine ants, weed seeds. Prevent Kauri Dieback and make sure your shoes are cleaned.
  • Bring shared nibbles for 1 night. We will have half the group providing nibbles each night.
  • Bring your own breakfast, lunch and dinner as there are no shops on the island.
  • You’ll need walking shoes for the islands, a day pack and plenty of sun screen.
  • You must all have at least 2 High Vis items – flag, hat, clothing, boat. There will be a lot of boat traffic anniversary weekend and it is imperative that you are easily seen.
