Matakana to Omaha and Point Wells return. SUNDAY 8 APRIL 2018 with Neil Watson
The Matakana trails ride has fantastic views and many points of interest including café’s, wineries and roadside stalls offering fresh produce. The track goes through farmland as well as bush and quiet communities.
22km approx. Takes about 3 hours depending on pit stops and swimming.
If the ride is going to be cancelled, Neil will email cancellation a couple of days ahead.
This ride is flat to undulating. There is one steep section up and down to Takatu Road
Surface varies: mostly gravel cycleway with about 4km on gravel roads
Roads are fairly quiet with 50 to 70km speed limits. Take care if crossing Matakana Bridge
The ride is more suited to mountain bikes.
Will suit all levels of rider.
The itinerary and route
Meet at the carpark on Matakana Wharf Road at 9:30am. On your bike by 10:00am.
Matakana to Point Wells. Turn right from Matakana Wharf Road onto Leigh Road then right again to Tongue Farm Road. Morris & James Pottery is on Tongue Farm Road. Follow the cycleway beside Takatu Road to Jones Road. Turn left onto Jones Road which turns into Point Wells Road. Refresh at the Point Wells store and check out the view point looking across Whangateau Harbour
Point Wells to Omaha. Head back along Point Wells and left onto Broadlands Drive. Stop at the café on Broadlands Drive then carry on to Omaha where you’ll find some loos. Check out the beach for a swim.
Omaha to Matakana. Retrace your wheel track back to Matakana, leaving out Point Wells Road.

The rules and etiquette
Bring your wet weather gear, repair kit, snacks and water.
Give way to pedestrians on walkways and shared paths. Good idea to get a bell to warn pedestrians when approaching from behind.
