Moturekareka and Motuketekete cicrumnavigation Sunday 25 March 2018 (intermediate)

Moturekareka and Motuketekete are two awesome little islands that have much to offer to the kayaker with their distinctly different rock formations and caves all around them, a shipwreck that is a famous diving/snorkelling spot, and short walks.

The plan is to meet at Martin’s Bay at 9am for a 9:30 departure. Paddle to southern end of the beach, then cross over to western tip of Moturekareka and stop for morning tea.

Continue with paddle/exploration around Rocky Islets, then along eastern coast toward and around Motuketekete. Lunch at the beach close to the shipwreck on Moturekareka. Possible snorkel/swim (byo snorkelling gear) or walk there. Paddle back to Martin’s bay after lunchbreak.

Participants to bring their own kayaks, and usual kayak, swimming, and safety kit (helmets recommended for those wishing to explore around the rocks) as we will not be bringing the trailer and don’t have much in the way of spares. Also byo food for the day.

Latest time off the water 6pm

We’ll get in touch with everyone via email in the week before the trip to confirm that it’s running based on weather to be expected.

If you have any queries beforehand, feel free to contact Filip on 021 192 9993 or via email on filip@motionandstillness.net.
