Explore new territory and enjoy hot pools or spa afterwards! Meet up with some locals – we’ll be in the Bay of Plenty Yakity Yak or BASK paddler’s patch. Fri – Allow 2 hrs. drive (off-peak) from Auckland Harbour bridge; meet at Bowentown Beach Holiday Park. Grab takeaways en route. Meet at 8.00am in kitchen each morning to confirm paddling options chosen on the day! Sat. and Sun - Several paddling options: 1. If flat calm weather and minimal swell – head north on coastal paddle from Waihi Beach to Boat Bay, to Mataora Bay for great rock gardening – 24km return 2. Paddle from Anzac Bay or Shelley Bay to Katikati via Tanners Point & Kauri Point, going up Uretara Stream. Lunch at Katikati, byo or buy a pie or ice-cream and then go back with tide.30km return. Cook your own dinner at the Holiday Park. Alternatively, or on Sunday: 3. Launch from Anzac Bay and cross over to Matakana Island heading for Blue Gum Bay - 26km return 4. Drive to Omokoroa, launch at park, paddle around headland to Ngakautuakina Pt (Pahoia Rd) and up Waipapa estuary to the river - 18km 5. Potter around the Waihi Beach Markets before walking from end Waihi Beach to Orokawa Bay (1 hr.) |
