15th Dec - Rangitoto Sunset Paddle

WATCH THE SUN SET from THE TOP OF RANGITOTO
on the (almost) LONGEST
DAY!!

Sunset on the bridge

Well last year was a bit of a wipe out so let’s try again

The fifth annual Sunset Trip to Rangitoto is on again on Saturday 15th Dec 2012.
Trip Leader Richard Saysell.

The plan is to avoid the usual starting point for Rangi, Takapuna Boat Ramp, because of Xmas Parking hassles, so therefore we will start from Milford Beach by the main car park. However it is a big car park so wheels may be a good idea. This start point only adds about 5min to the paddle time to McKenzie Bay on Rangi.

For those who wish to experience this for the first time the general plan is, as usual, to meet at 5:30PM for a 6:00 departure, which should see us on Rangi by 7:00.  With 1Hr for a leisurely walk to the top we should be well in time to see the sun set at 8:36.

All that exercise of course makes you hungry so a shared feast of Christmas fare and tipples should top you up and give you the energy to return to Milford.
We should be back at Milford by 11:30 to midnight. Don’t worry it’s a “Sleep In Sunday”- if you have finished the Xmas shopping!!

Things to bring:-
Full night Kayaking gear
Small Backpack
Thermals, - it can be chilly on the summit.
