General Plan The eight Annual Summer weekend based at Jones Landing, Arapuni. A ‘cruisey’ weekend suitable for all paddlers and non-kayaking partners.
Fri night – meet at Peter & Hiroko’s place, Jones Landing, Arapuni – curry and garlic bread/toast provided for dinner/supper. Set up camp, arrange carpooling for Sat. A map will be emailed to you on registration.
Sat morn – 8.30am drive to Tokoroa, then to Lake Atiamuri. Launch approx. 10am. Paddle upstream about 7km towards Ohakuri dam, then return to launching spot for lunch. Then paddle about 7km up the Northern arm towards Whangapoa stream. (Or relax on the river bank and wait for us to return.)
Sat eve. – Shared dinner. Let Ruth know your ‘signature’ dish or be assigned a category of food e.g. pudding!!
You will be contacted about this on the Mon – Tues before. Please provide a landline phone number.
Sun morn – up at 6.00am for dawn paddle to Arapuni dam. 3 km cruise each way. Enchanting! A highlight of the weekend, every time!!
After brunch, 3 hr. river bank walk to the Arapuni swing bridge and latte at The Rhubarb Café.

Communications We will be communicating as a group on VHF Channel 6, cellphone reception is negligible. If needing to cancel or leave an ‘emergency number for home’, use Peter & Hiroko’s number provided on Map, emailed to you after registration.
Facilities /Car Parking Camping on mown paddock at private home, use of hot showers, flush loo, kitchen, microwave, BBQ. Bring chilly bins as limited fridge space.
Equipment Usual camping, paddling and safety gear, snacks, brekka, lunch, wallet.
Emergency Exit Points Along river bank.
Additional info Non-paddlers can potter, paint, or shop at nearby Tirau or Putaruru.

We will probably leave home on Thursday, and get to Peter & Hiroko’s about 4pm Friday. So please register by Wednesday.
