Labour Weekend at Home Bay

LABOUR WEEKEND EXPLORING INNER GULF ISLANDS

Based on Home Bay, Motutapu 20– 22 Oct

Want to get away in the Kayak for Labour Weekend, but can’t bear the thought of Hours in Holiday traffic?

Why not join Richard Saysell on an inner gulf exploring weekend based from Home Bay Motutapu

The plan is to leave from Milford Beach (end of Milford Rd) at 10AM on Sat 20th, and depending on the wind direction paddle our way to Home bay either through the gap , around the top of Motutapu or bottom of Rangi.
Once there set up camp and play the rest of the weekend by ear. Possible paddles include North or South shores of Waiheke, up around Rakino and the Noises, or around Motuihe.

Return will be on Monday, plan on 4 PM back at Milford.

The whole camp is virtually unbooked at this point in time so we can go anywhere on the site. I have booked into Boiler Bay site as it looks the  most protected, but I am sure we could move if need be. Bookings can be made on line on the DOC website; cost is $6 per night.

Cars can probably be left fairly safely parked in Milford, but arranging someone to drop you off and pick you up would be an option.

You will need to bring full Kayaking and Camping gear plus food for 3 days. Water is on the Island but may need to be boiled. Bring also tramping clothes in case the wether precludes Kayaking. A climb to the top of Rangi is a possibility for the fit.

The required skill level is paddle fit intermediate (2B), as the area around here can be unpredictable with open water to cross. Paddle distances may be up to 25K per day.

Please book on line and leave a contactable phone No.
