Saturday 28th July

A new club day trip away from Wellington, with the option of a social overnight stay.

Beginner to intermediate, but suitable for those new to kayaking and those that enjoy getting away for a social weekend. Non kayaking partners welcome for the evening and overnight stay .

Transport will be by private vehicles. Transport for kayaks where members cannot transport them themselves can be arranged if required.

If you don't have a Kayak please contact Canoe and Kayak and arrange to rent one well before the trip, or alternatively post a request on the Facebook page to see if another member could lend you their kayak for the trip.

Trip outline

This is an easy to medium trip with as much or as little social contact as paddlers  and non-paddling partners want.

Put-in will be at the end of Old Foxton Road, Shannon at 9.30 am.

We will paddle 20 Kms down the Manawatu River to the take out at the Manawatu Estuary/river mouth at Foxton Beach. There is an easy flow down the Manawatu River with no waterfalls, rapids or significant  snags. The tide at the estuary will not significantly affect paddling.

Estimated arrival time is 3.00 pm. Keen paddlers could also paddle the five Kms up the Foxton Loop to a take-out at Foxton township. The estimated arrival time for them would be 4.00pm.

Paddlers will need to take their own lunches and drinks on the trip. Transport will be provided for paddlers needing to be taken back to the put-in to pick up their vehicles. Security for their kayaks will be provided in the meantime. Showers will be available at the trip leader’s home which is 20 minutes from both the put-in and take-out points.
Social Overnight Option

For those having the time and wanting social contact with other clubbies a pot luck dinner/ BBQ will be held at the trip leader’s home from 6.00 pm on the day of the paddle. Clubbies and partners will be welcome to camp (tents, motorhomes or caravans) at the trip leader’s home which is just north of Levin.
