Trip Details:          

This is an easy to medium trip with as much or as little social contact as paddlers and non-paddling partners want.

Put-in will be at Kahutara on the Ruamahanga River in South Wairarapa at 9.30 am on Saturday 8 July 2018. We will paddle 20 Kms down the Ruamahanga River and south down Lake Onoke to the take-out at Lake Ferry. Lake Ferry is a township (not a lake at all) on the south eastern shore of Lake Onoke. There is an easy flow down the Ruamahanga River with no waterfalls, rapids or significant  snags. If the sand bar at Lake Ferry is open Lake Onoke and the south end of the Ruamahanga River is tidal but the tide should not significantly affect paddling. A strong southerly wind would though. Estimated arrival time at Lake Ferry is 3.30 pm.

 

Logistics:

Paddlers will need to take their own lunches and drinks on the paddle. Transport for paddlers needing to be taken back to the put-in to pick up their vehicles will be provided. Security for their kayaks will be provided in the meantime. Showers will be available at the motorcamp.

For those having the time and wanting social contact with other clubbies the trip leader and organiser will be staying in the Lake Ferry motorcamp from 5.00 pm on Friday 7 July. There is also the Lake Ferry Hotel, with various accommodation options available.  Dinner and drinks will also be available at the Lake Ferry Hotel on Friday evening or for those booked into the camping ground the kitchen there will be available. Dinner on Saturday evening will be a pot luck BYO dinner in the camping ground kitchen / dining room.
