Bowentown to Tuapiro Creek

 anzac bay    Tuapiro Creek Tauranga

UPDATE: Cancelled due to high wind forecast, sorry!

Sunday 24th February

Departing from the the boat ramp in Pio Road at Bowentown we'll paddle across the northern part of the Tauranga Harbour with the incoming tide and head over to Tanners Point. Passing Tanner's Point we'll head up the scenic Tuapiro Creek which should be filling up nicely with the incoming tide. We'll stop for lunch on the way back through Tanners Point and then head out in to the harbour and back across to Bowentown on the start of the outgoing tide.

In total we'll cover around 15km and due to the nature of the strong tidal current in this area of the harbour, this trip is only suited to intermediate club members who have several trips behind them with varying conditions. Timings with this trip are critical so we don't get caught out by a strong outgoing tide through the notorious Bowentown entrance.

High tide is at 11.32 and low tide is at 17:42

Meet at the boat ramp in Bowentown at 9:00am, on the water for 9:30am.
Toilets are on site at boat ramp and at Tanners Point.
We aim to be back at Anzac Bay by 2pm before the outgoing tide gets too strong.
Back in Tauranga by 3:30pm after loading back up.

Estelle will be leading this trip.

Please bring all your usual kayaking equipment, bilge pump and float, and your lunch.

If you're keen to join text 0220918605/bopyakityyakkayakclub@gmail.com. All participants need to be current club members and have completed a 2 day sea kayak skills course and be of a confident level to paddle in some potential tidal current, wind and at a consistent pace. Please do not be offended if you are told the trip is not suitable for your ability. This is in the interests of yours and others safety. This is a good trip for those intermediates keen to develop their sea kayaking skills and understanding of tidal current and trip planning.
