Orongo Holiday Park is a lovely venue for a camp. It has a full range of camp sites and cabins, so there is something to suit everyones tastes. There is a large clean kitchen with a great dining/loung area with stocked fire place and library (if you have time). There are weka running around in the day and kiwi at night. A great opportunity for bird watchers. While the camp is not directly on the beach it is a short drive to two good launch points, either Russell Boating Club or Oneroa Bay. The Kororareka (Russell) Inlet is very sheltered and offers placid paddles for beginners. Conversely, for the experienced paddler, very exciting rock gardening can be available on the Pacific side of the coastlines of the mainland and the islands depending on wind directions and strength.
