Sunset from the Summit

WATCH THE SUN SET from THE TOP OF RANGITOTO on the (almost) SHORTEST DAY with Richard SAYSELL

12 July 2014

Well a lot of us have done the longest day Paddle so how about we balance that up with a shortest day Paddle and walk to the summit.

For those keen the general plan is, to meet at Milford by Main Car Park end at 2 PM for a 2:30 departure, which should see us on Rangitoto by 3:45

(FYI Takapuna has P180 restrictions and Narrow Neck we will push tide both ways)

With 1Hr for a leisurely walk to the top we should be well in time to see the sun set at 5:21.

All that exercise of course makes you hungry so a shared feast of body warming fare and hot drinks should top you up and give you the energy for the return to Milford by 8 PM.

Things to bring:-

Full night Kayaking gear

Small Backpack

Thermals and jacket - it will be chilly on the summit.

Walking shoes

Drinking water for Kayak and Climb

Torch or headlight to light your way back down the rough track. (No sprains please)

Food and a hot drink for shared feast. (Plus chopping boards or serving dishes etc if required)

Camera

Weather parameters 15K max

Likely to be swells and chop and boat traffic.

LW 12:44, HW 7:14PM

No emergency pullout spots except other North Shore Beaches

Skill level required 2B (See grading system).

No plan B. A cancellation decision will be made on Friday if the weather not looking suitable. (Reschedule possible 1 week later if no major clashes)
