Stoney Bay, Coromandal

Join Joya for a few days (you choose) at DOC's Stoney Bay camp.
The area of paddleing  is suitable for strong beginners upwards.

I've booked in Ailsa Heights for two reasons. 1 - the beach is better and less bouldery at the NW end. 2 - The area is fairly protected from wind.

ALSO CAR SHARING:-
* We have one person wanting to share her car for the trip. Ideally leaving Auckland Friday morning, and leaving the camp Sunday evening or early Monday morning. Ring Joya 021 046 9036 for details.
* A second person would like to share with someone intending to stay down until Tuesday morning. Again - ring Joya 021 046 9036.

The rock gardening and caving through here is brilliant so bring your helmet. There is a cave system close to the camp which you will need a water proof touch to be able to reach the end point. The fishing and shell fish in the area are usually pretty good too. On a good day you can paddle to Fletchers Bay for ice creams from the visiting truck (and back again).

Stoney Bay is a typical DOC camp with long drops and shower stalls where you can hang your shower bag. There's a unsealed road from the camp to the beach (bring your trolley and leave it tied to a tree). There are beachfront campsites and recessed bush sites. There is also a good sized creek for washing down all your gear.

For runners and cyclists there are some challenging offroad tracks up into the hills (one goes thro to Fletchers Bay , some are rugged trappers trails).

Joya will be arriving as early as possible on the Friday and may not get away until Tues or Wed.
