The Hoteo River flows into the Kaipara harbour 60 km (about 45 minutes) driving distance from the North Shore shop.

The general plan is to start from the parking area on the left just after crossing the Hoteo bridge on SH16 and paddle upstream with the incoming tide until stopped by the rapids.

After a lunch break the return trip will be largely tidal assisted also.

The distance of approx 16 km return is suitable for beginners who have completed the skills course.

(The tide height and timing should allow those interested to paddle beyond the first rapids. On a previous trip we managed a further 2.5km upstream before most were stopped.)

Meet at the Hoteo bridge carpark at 8.30 am for a 9.00 am departure
