Arapuni – Atiamuri – Maungatautari: paddle, pack or pedal

A mixed medley of camping, paddling, pedalling, or hiking - a Lake, a Mountain, a Lake...

Friday night meet at the private property of friends of Ruth’s at Jones Landing, Lake Arapuni, Waikato. (Details and map will be sent after registration, a week prior).Set up tents; approx. 6.30pm enjoy a home cooked dinner provided by our hosts and leader.

Saturday – depart house 8.30am. Drive to Lake Atiamuri, paddle upstream past flowering water lilies to the Whangapoa stream, continue as far as possible – the aim is to get to the bridge -21km return (Ohakuri Rd) - gather blackberries, they can be as big as Boysenberries….

Dinner – shared meal - pot luck, state your ‘signature dish’ or be given a suggestion.

Sunday – An alternative day - either opt to climb up Mount Maungatautari a large ‘inland ecological island’ and wild-life sanctuary (traverse from Hicks Rd to Tari Rd) – (13.5kms – 5hrs approx.) or cycle on Waikato River Trail. Dinner – shared meal – Indian theme...surprise us!
Or – Paddling with Chris Dench, from Little Waipa Domain to Horahora Domain on the Waikato River (20kms)

Monday – depart house at 6.00am for the annual Arapuni Dawn Parade paddle (a 3km cruise each way - enchanting – a highlight every time!), then after a late breakfast, freelance options include riverside walk to swing bridge and café (3 hrs.) or cycle this part of the Waikato River Trail.
Or – paddle with Chris Dench from Jones Landing on Lake Arapuni up the Mangare Stream (10km).
 

Accommodation/Facilities - our host’s house has kitchen, oven, microwave, BBQ, flush loos, hot shower. Camping is on an adjoining property for tents and campervans.

Registration – please book in early, as we need to co-ordinate food and travel AND from Fri afternoon I will be out of cell-phone range. I like to finalise arrangements a week in advance.
