YYNS Matakana Meander with Ruth - Sunday 15 January 17

matakana-357

Catch the tide up the Matakana River and have a few hours exploring the trendy town without the Markets crowd, have a café lunch or picnic on the riverbank.
To avoid the seasonal congestion at Sandspit carpark we will launch at Snells Beach. Drive to the end of Ariki Dr (opposite The Warehouse) Snells Beach.
Meet at 8.30am for on-the-water at 9.00. Don’t be late...as neither the tide nor I will wait. Paddle 8.5kms past Sandspit and Tongue Pt and up the mangrove lined river.
Return on the outward tide, getting back to base by 1500 or earlier.

Plan B – if there is a strong Northerly – drive to Tawharanui Regional Park, launch at Jones Bay and paddle to Sandspit (9.5km) for a coffee and back. Could stop off at earlier bays.

Plan C’s – explore Matakana, Morris & James pottery, and walk the nature trial at Tawharanui Open Sanctuary.

Bring wheels if you have them, wear hi-vis hats, vests and/or flags.

Suitable for beginners provided the wind is less than 15knots.
