General Plan

Note: If plan changes, you must notify your Check-in person.

Leisurely paddle in and around Whangaroa Harbour – easily the most beautiful harbour on the North Island, if not NZ! Beginners should be confident to paddle for about 8km at a time without putting in. Additionally, the plan for day outside of the harbour is highly dependent on the weather and swell (we will not attempt to paddle along this rocky coast and through its caves in swell over 0.5m) meeting beginner parameters.

Participants are to find individual accommodation in/around Whangaroa. Meet for a short briefing and drink at Marlin Hotel or Whangaroa Sport Fishing Club on Friday evening.

Proposed Day 1: Launch at boat ramp at the end of Ruato Rd, paddle within harbour environs (15-20km), return to starting point.

Proposed Day 2: Launch at Tauranga Bay, paddle along the coast to Taupo Bay (~15km), return to starting point.

Note Those wishing to go through the caves (weather permitting) must bring helmets!

Actual plans to be confirmed on the evening before each day according to weather conditions and abilities of those present.
