Lake Matahina

This trip is cancelled due to road closures leading up to, across and after the dam at Lake Matahina so there is no access, sorry.
The weather is also looking very windy so an alternative paddle will not be arranged.


SUNDAY 29th JULY

A surprisingly stunning man-made lake situated between Rotorua and Whakatane, with amazing columned cliffs, over-hanging waterfalls and even hidden waterfalls. Interesting twists and turns to this lake make it a permanent favourite on the kayaking calendar. Winter is the best time to paddle here as the waterfalls are generally running at their best.


Meet at the shop at 8:30am to car pool or directly at the lake at 10am. Meeting point at the lake is at the parking area/bay on Rototaha Road (just off Galatea Road) near the dam see map.....
There is a toilet there.
Estelle leading this one! Around a 15km paddle.
Bring lunch & drinks and plenty of warm gear.

Suitable for fit beginners.

NB- do not leave anything valuables in your vehicles here, take as much as possible in your kayaks, we have had problems in the past.
