Lake Waikaremoana

22nd - 24th October - Labour Weekend
Sat 22nd:
Meet at shop at 6:30am for those keen to car pool
(let me know asap if you're keen).
Drive for 4 hours to the Mokau Inlet meeting at 11:30am at the boat ramp/camping site just off Waikaremoana Road on Lake Waikaremoana. Here, we'll park our vehicles and paddle round the corner to Waihirere Falls which you can paddle under if there's enough water.

From here we'll head down the Mokau Inlet, round and through 'The Narrows'
and in to the Wairau Arm (Wairamoana) heading to the Korokoro Campsite for the night.  Overall we'll cover around 12km.
Here we'll pitch our tents and enjoy the stunning surrounding bush, the beautiful Korokoro Falls nearby and a simple camp dinner.

Sun 23rd: Paddle from Korokoro Campsite back to the Mokau Inlet, having lunch on route (around 12km) We'll then pick up our vehicles and drive to the Waikaremoana Holiday Park. From here we'll settle in and then either go for a walk to Lake Waikareiti where we can hire a rowing boat or two to get out on to the lake to explore or walk/drive to the spectacular Papakorito Falls on the Aniwina Stream!
We'll then head back to organise a pot luck dinner.
Mon 24th: Paddle from the Holiday Park to Onepoto Bay (about a 10km return trip) where we'll get out of our kayaks, have lunch and walk up to the Onepoto Caves to investigate. This system of caves are home to cave Weta and it is advisable to have a torch or headlight.

We'll enjoy the views then paddle back.
We'll then drive back to Tauranga.

All of this is dependent on good weather so the plan may change at the last minute. You'll need to have suitable kayaking attire, camping gear and walking gear with you (see the list below)
