Orakei Korako winter wonderland paddle
Saturday, 30 August 2014
Join us to explore some of the truly spectacular scenery that New Zealand has to offer. We will paddle down the Waikato river alongside bubbling springs and clear, warm water to the silica terraces at Orakei Korako.
The plan is to launch from the boat ramp across the road from NZ Riverjet and paddle downstream to Orakei Korako. We will meet in Taupo at 9am or at the launch point at 9.30am to allow time for a car shuttle. If access proves too difficult, we will launch from Tutukau Road and paddle down to Orakei Korako and back (it's a pretty gentle current). Either way, the paddle will be about 20 km with a break for lunch half-way and a chance to get up close and personal with the hot stuff! If we take out at Orakei Korako, we will get a coffee and a cake at the coffee shop after the paddle.
All participants need to be current club members and bring warm clothes appropriate for winter paddling. This trip is suitable for strong beginners who can paddle the distance. See you on the water!
