Whangaruru Harbour
13 -18 April - Easter Weekend. Leaders Russ and Larraine
Whangaruru offers many paddling possibilities which includes Bland Bay, Helena Bay, Oakura, and Mimiwhangata. The entire coastline in this area is stunning.
We are booked into Whangaruru Beachfront Camp 45 Ohawini Road Hikurangi, - website here...
The map linked to the website shows a place with the same name in Whangarei, so make sure that you go to the one further north, past Helena Bay, near Oakura.
This trip is suitable for all levels of experience including new paddlers. Even if there is some wind and/or swell, it should still be quite sheltered inside the harbour.
There is lots of rock gardening in this area so you should take a helmet if you intend going anywhere near the rocks. If you don't have your own you should be able to hire one from C&K North Shore. Make your booking at the campground asap, as they may be busy over Easter. Russ and Larraine are going Wed 13 because we can. You are welcome to join us for all or part of the weekend.
To join us you must have completed your Kayak Skills Course with Canoe & Kayak, and be a Yakity Yak club member.
