Sunday 2nd December (alternative trip to Lake Okataina)

Due to the forecast winds and direction of wind we have changed the trip to Lake Rotomahana where we should be able to shleter more from the wind.

Lake Rotomahana is a stunning bush clad lake with spectacular views of Tarawera. The Pink and White Terraces were a natural wonder on the shores of the lake before the 1886 eruption. They were considered to be the eighth wonder of the natural world and were New Zealand's most famous tourist attraction during the mid 19th century, but were believed to be buried or destroyed by the eruption.Scientists rediscovered the lower tiers of the Pink and White Terraces on the lakebed at a depth of 60 metres (200 ft) in 2011.

This will be a short, leisurley paddle exploring the lake. If the weather is good enough we'll circumnavigate round the lake but if it's too windy we'll stick to the northern shore to shelter from the wind.
Bring lunch and gear for kayaks to weight them down so they're easier in the potential wind.

Meet at 8:45am at the shop. Van & trailer are available on a first come first serve basis. Latest time of the water will be 4pm.
