What you need to know:
Those coming in the van please meet at the shop (49 Totara Street, Mount Maunganui) at 7:30am to load the van/trailer. DO NOT BE LATE.
Please ensure all your kayaking gear is loaded in to your kayaks (as much as possible) to allow adequate space in the van for personal clothing/gear & food.
We advise you buy a cockpit cover for your kayak from Canoe & Kayak to utilize that space too and prevent your kayak filling with water if it rains ( as the trailer will be full and we don't want to overload it with any additional weight).
You need to bring some cash with you to contribute towards fuel/food.

Other Activities:
Pelorous River Eco Trip - this is a leisurely half day paddle down one of the most beautiful, clear rivers in the region. And whilst this trip caters for the Hobbit enthusiastic, it will be designed to suit our kayaking nature. Paddling in double inflatables, it will be a great opportunity to have some fun, build some teamwork and have a swim in one of the clearest rivers in the country with the most spectacular scenery.
Abel Tasman Canyoning: this adventure was recommended to us by the Yakity Yak Wellington club who's members got to experience it for themselves a year or so ago. They raved about it and the smiles in the photos said it all. The canyoning trip we will be doing will be the most gentle/beginner trip. Designed to ensure you have fun without being terrified, but will build your confidence too. Using rope lines and harnesses we'll be expertly guided down the river whilst taking in the stunning Abel Tasman bush environment. Walking and sliding on your bottom down river we'll enjoy a new way to explore the place. Suitable for all ages and abilities, with wetsuits and bum protectors provided, it will be heaps of fun and I really hope you will join in as this may a chance in a lifetime to do it with such a fun group.
If you have not done so already you need to confirm by the 22nd March if you wish to attend the canyoning. text Estelle 0220918605

DIDYMO: It's our duty of care to ensure we do not spread didymo from one water fresh water body to another:
Kayaks and associated equipment and gear should be cleaned thoroughly both inside and out with a decontamination solution. Scrub or spray all exterior parts of the craft with a decontamination solution, ensuring surface contact for at least one minute. Then fill the interior of the craft with the decontamination solution, place all associated equipment, gear and clothing used in the boating activity into the craft, immerse completely and soak for as long as needed to thoroughly penetrate all absorbent items.
The equipment may then be rinsed using water that has come from a town water supply.
Drying is an acceptable alternative method, provided that all components are completely dry to the touch, inside and out, and then left dry for at least another 48 hours before entering a different waterway.
Freezing small items is another option.
