Raglan Harbour weekend

Friday 24 to Sunday 26 July 2020. Leader is Ruth.

Note that this is a combined Yakity Yak and BASK trip.

Explore Raglan beaches, harbour, town and country.

Friday afternoon/night - check into Raglan Kopu Holiday Park, then head to the Wainui Reserve for a bracing walk on the Ngarunui surf beach and to watch the sunset. Return to either cook your own dinner grab some takeaways, or dine out.

Saturday morning - launch from campsite at Wainamu beach. On the water at 10.30am (So, you could drive down/over/up early Sat). Check out the limestone rocks across the harbour then head up harbour past the wharf and Lorenzen Bay into the first inlet where we may see Royal Spoonbills, then onto Okete Bay to the water fall. Traditionally you need to poke your bow into that! After a late lunch, catch the tidal stream, for a fast ride back to camp. (18 km return).

Saturday dinner – dine out at one of the local restaurants (probably Orca or The Wharf).

Sunday – check-out by 10am then sightsee Raglan town, plenty of arty-crafty shops, yummy cafes, then on the homeward journey, visit Bridal Veil falls.

BOOK YOUR OWN accommodation. Raglan Kopu Holiday Park 07 825 8283 or stay@raglanholidaypark.co.nz

Ruth is known for never cancelling trips.  If it is too windy to paddle she finds another spot, or other activities. They are always good fun and good company.

Suitable for confident beginners, as long as the wind is less than 15 knots.

If you need a hire kayak you need to contact Canoe & Kayak Sandringham here... to make arrangements, and you will need to transport it yourself as the trailer is not going.
