Rangitoto is home of the largest pōhutukawa forest in the world and when is it better to head out there than while they are (still hopefully) in bloom?
This trip is suitable for intermediate and strong beginners. This trip will be around 14 km, so a good level of fitness is recommended.
Date: 21 December
Meet at Castor Bay Beach at 07:30 to be on the water at 08:00. Estimated time off the water is 14:00
High tide is 09:08am and Low Tide is at 03:20 pm
Trip Plan: Paddle out from Castor Bay to McKenzie Bay. The plan is then to hike up to the summit and have lunch. The return trip from McKenzie Bay to the summit and back is around 8km and will take around 2 hours (excluding our stop for lunch).
This trip is weather dependent and we may opt for a different route, should the conditions not be conducive to a safe channel crossing.
