UPDATE: At this current time there are no volunteer leaders for this area so there are no scheduled trips in this area unless organised by other regions. However, please contact Canoe & Kayak BOP 07 5747415 who can advise you on alternative regular kayaking opportunities in this area.

Kia Ora,

Welcome to the kayak club of Tauranga and the Bay of Plenty region. If you're reading this then you've already made the first step to taking your kayaking interest further, whether you've already kayaked before or an absolute beginner, our kayak club is a friendly place to learn to sea kayak, develop your skills at your pace and really discover some amazing kayaking destinations in New Zealand that you probably didn't know existed or wouldn't paddle on your own.

The Yakity Yak Kayak Club is unique. In joining our club in the BOP you are also joining the other yakity yak clubs around New Zealand. This gives you the opportunity to access trips being run across the country and meet some amazing people.

Our club in the Bay has many opportunities to get you out on the water, whatever you fancy and whatever your level of ability. All we ask is that you complete a Canoe & Kayak Sea Kayak skills course first so that you have the foundation skills required for you to be safe on the water. This is as much for the safety others as well as yourself. These courses will also give you the confidence to do more than you expected and perhaps do trips you wouldn't have considered before, safe in the knowledge you are surrounded by like minded, experienced, supportive people and trained leaders and instructors.

We have members from 14yrs - 80+yrs so no matter what you're age or ability, we guarantee you'll find trips to suit you. Membership is just $75 a year, $115 for couples & families.
Membership benefits:
*Your membership is nationwide
*All trips are free (unless otherwise stated)
*Trips run all year round
*BOP club trips may be local or across New Zealand

Testimonials from our members:

''I found Dan to be a great instructor with the ability to clearly communicate his instructions with patience and humility.
As a kid I was taught how to row but when it came to canoes and kayaks I was given a life jacket and a paddle then set loose.
I took up kayaking again about seven years ago and have picked up a couple of reference books to brush up on paddle strokes etc but the value of being taught by someone with Dan’s experience who is able to analyse where I was going wrong so that I can make the necessary corrections/improvements is far more beneficial and effective.
In my opinion it should be made compulsory for anyone taking up kayaking to attend a Kayaking Skills Course not only for their benefit and safety but that of others who may be called on to rescue them?
I am looking forward to joining the other “clubbies” on trips and after meeting Sid I am enthusiastic about being able to do this for another 20 odd years?
Thanks to you both for your help, advice and encouraging me to attend the course which I will be promoting to other budding kayakers.
Look forward to seeing you at the shop…and more importantly on the water!'  A. Snowsill - new member

"Estelle and Dave are great company. It's largely their great personalities and enthusiasm that make the club and shop the awesome entities they are. Looking forward to our next trip."  R. Moberly - current member
