Lake Karapiro & Pokaiwhenua Stream One Way Trip

lake karapiro Pokaiwhenua Stream-584

Sunday 17th December

Join Estelle on a pleasant lake paddle exploring the upper part of Lake Karapiro (Waikato River) and the various streams that feed in to the lake, including the pretty Pokaiwhenua Stream.

The perfect trip for beginners to build up their confidence and fitness and enjoy the scenery all at the same time. Distance 10-12km with the river flow as this is a one way trip.

The van & trailer will be going so if you wish to car pool, follow or get a ride let Estelle know, space on a first come first serve basis. Hire kayaks from Canoe & Kayak can also be transported on the trailer. It's about an hours drive from the shop to the launch site so meet at the shop at 8:30am.

A shuttle needs to be arranged for this trip:
10am meet at the carpark which is on the left by the lake about a 1/3 of the way along Horahora Road from the Arapuni/Putararu end. If you cross over a stream you've gone too far. Here we'll drop off all the kayaks and kit and whilst someone stays with the gear we'll drive further along Horahora Road to the carpark on the left just after you cross the Pokaiwhenua Stream. We'll drop the cars off, jump in the van and go back to the first car park ready to launch. On the water for around 10:30am.
We'll then paddle downstream, exploring the streams, stopping for lunch somewhere suitable until we reach the other carpark and your cars. Someone will need to drive Estelle back to the other car park to pick up the van and trailer to bring it back for loading.
Off the water by 3:30pm at the latest. Aim to be back in Tauranga by 5pm (after loading).
