Lake Rotorua to Lake Rotoiti

Lake Rotorua & Lake Rotoiti
Sunday 5th November

Update 4/11/2017: This trip will be going ahead. Current forecast 10 knots, rising to 15knots Westerlies. Some showers. This will mean we will have a good tailwind the whole way. Please ensure you have appropriate gear for wet weather and a change of paddling clothes if you get wet in the weir. Helmets must be worn when running the weir. I will be bringing some with me for people to borrow, otherwise you must portage.
Join Estelle as we paddle from Hamurana Springs on the shores of Lake Rotorua, along Mission Bay to the Ohau Channel, down the Ohau channel in to Lake Rotoiti and then along the shores of Lake Rotoiti to Okere Falls & the cafe. This will require a short shuttle being arranged as it will be a one way trip, but definitely worth it!
This trip will be suitable for beginners, and those of you keen and confident can shoot the weir at the Ohau Channel, those of you not so brave can portage around it.
Should be a fun trip with great hot chocolate at the end, in the cafe!
The van & trailer will be going so those wanting a lift meet at the shop at 8:30am or meet at 9:30am at the parking opposite the Hamurana Springs Gardens & Golf Resort on the lake shore on Hamurana Road. Latest time off the water will be 3pm.
All participants must be current club members and have completed a 2 day skills course. If you want to come along let Estelle know 0220918605 / bopyakityyakkayakclub@gmail.com
