The Bay of Islands / Urapukaupka Island is really lovely area to visit. Have a look at google to familiarize yourself with the area.
Almost every time I go, I have seen dolphins, fabulous star light etc.
Please Note:
I will be leaving Auckland on Thursday13/04 and may not be able to check my mail after 12/04. If you register after Wed 12/04, please Text me as well.
Mobile reception in Bay Of Islands is not guaranteed, so don’t assume a text will reach me.
I will be checking the Weather Monday to Wednesday (before the trip). If the weather predictions is bad for the whole weekend, I will cancel the trip on the Wednesday 12/04 so watch your emails around that time. If the weather is good, I intend to stay on the island longer possibly until Sunday 23/04. So if you would like to stay longer, bring extra food etc.
Directions:
Head to Rawhiti Road,Rawhiti Northland(refer below to car parking details below for specific address)
I will be parking at the $5 car park. I will be leaving Auckland around 11:30. According to Google it will take 3 hours 10 min. However with Easter traffic, it could be longer & I usually take a break somewhere. Kaiwaka – has a lovely Italian Bakery (on Left) that does good coffee’s and fabulous food.

If you come up on the Thursday, lets say
I will ask on the registration form, for details of when you think you will be coming. i.e. if you don’t come Thursday, then I could let you know who else is coming later (if anyone)
If you have never been before,
We will be camping at Cable Bay Camp ground, Urapukapuka Island (Try book in Pohutukawa area) –
You need to book for yourself online:
http://www.doc.govt.nz/parks-and-recreation/places-to-stay/conservation-campsites-by-region/northland/bay-of-islands/cable-bay/
Trips will depend on who books & the skill levels as well as the weather at the time. There is a LOT to do in the area example:
If weather is rough / or we want a relaxed paddle, we can still kayak the West side of Urapukapuka, Waewaetorea Island & Okahu Island
Walk on Urapukapuka Island, there is about an 8 hour walking trails – some quite hard
Kayak to Moturua Island and do walk round the Island
Kayak to Motuarohia Island do walk to view point
Hole in the rock … (this is about 30 km return with only one stop point… so only done in really calm weather)
Rock gardening to Deep Water cove (again only done in relatively calm weather)
If there are a number of leaders, we could offer multiple paddles per day. So other leaders, bring your charts / maps of your favorite paddles, and be prepared to lead them, if you want to.
Note: there is a Restaurant at Otehei Bay (so having a cold beer / wine / ice cream is possible), However it is a good 15-20 min walk
