Mohaka River

UPDATED!! This trip has been cancelled due to lack of attendance. Sorry.

Join Dave & Estelle on a beginners WW trip enjoying one of Hawkes Bay's best sections of Grade 2 white water. The Mohaka River is a river in the northern Hawke's Bay region of the eastern North Island of New Zealand. It flows east-southeast for 70 kilometres from the Ahimanawa Range, before flowing into Hawke Bay close to the settlement of Mohaka, 20 kilometres southwest of Wairoa.

The Plan:

Meet at the shop at 3:30pm before closing on Saturday, jump in the van and drive 3 hours to the Mountain Valley Adventure Lodge where we plan to stay for the night and have dinner or meet us directly there. They can provide dinner/lunch and breakfast ( as you choose) or bring your own, they have kitchen facilities.
The aim is to be on the water first thing on Sunday morning. We'll spend the whole day on the river practising eddy turns, ferry gliding and generally improving your skills on moving water. In the late afternoon we'll load up the kayaks back on to the trailer and head back to Tauranga.

You will need plenty of munchies as lunch will be whilst out on the river. A thermos of hot drink, plenty of thermals/wetsuit and a paddle jacket is essential. Helmets and airbags (in WW kayaks/multisport kayaks) are required. You will need a dry bag that fits in your kayak with spare thermals to take with you on the water. Please dress for the water temperature not the air temperature as you will be getting wet!

Multisport Grade 2 certified members and white water kayakers /sea kayakers who've completed our white water course are welcome who are proficient and have adequate experience on Grade 2 waters.

The van will be passing through Rotorua and Taupo so if anyone wants a pick up on route let us know.
Hire WW kayaks are available, let us know if you need one. Helmets and airbags essential plus plenty of warm gear.
